Dear South Middle School Families,

Welcome back to our returning families, teachers, and staff! We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful summer and is ready for the new school year. 

To our incoming 6th graders and new families: Welcome to the SMS community! 

At SMS, our Parent Teacher Association focuses on nurturing a strong school community and support system by guiding new families, providing parents with volunteer opportunities throughout the school year, and offering exciting events and programs. We look forward to strengthening the partnerships we have established with the 
Board of Education, SMS administration, our wonderful teachers, and our invaluable staff to provide an unparalleled learning experience for our children.

Of course, we can not do this alone, so please join the PTA! Being a PTA member benefits our children as the dues go directly toward funding many of their school activities. While the school budget pays for academics, PTA dues help support all of the additional programming and elements that enhance the SMS experience, such as the annual Author Visit, Cultural Heritage Night, and Relay for Life field day. As members of the PTA, parents also have the 
chance to make a positive impact by engaging with our diverse group of parents and teachers, and our Association meetings offer even more opportunities to voice your opinions and concerns.
